velvet noise

Hi, Maja here.

The name Velvet Noise comes from a sound design term, a kind of soft, natural reverb used to make digital signals feel more real. That’s what this blog is about - sending out signals that feel a little more human and finding the softness in the static.

I was inspired to start this blog by one of my favourite bloggers, Henrik Karlson, who described a blog post as a complex search query aimed to find fascinating people: an open signal, sent out into the void. Expression, after all, is signaling. Sometimes the void answers back in a language we understand; sometimes it’s not speaking clearly yet. But either way, every piece of writing is a bid for resonance. The more clearly I express myself, the more legible I hope to become to myself and, maybe, to others.

As Yeats put it, “The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” So this is me, practicing.

If something here resonates - a sentence, a question, a half-formed thought - I’d love to hear from you. I’m always open to kindred minds, curious conversations, and unexpected interactions. Don’t hesitate to reach out.
